Basic Playback Theatre Workshop: Introduction
Join a virtual Playback Theatre workshop by Nigerian foremost art-for-social transformation practitioner, Oluwadamilola Abdulai-Apotieri. For two hours, Damilola will introduce, demonstrate and lead an introduction session on the Playback Theatre method. Playback Theatre is an original form of improvisational theatre in which audience or group members tell stories from their lives and watch them enacted on the spot. It is also referred to as “theatre of compassion”, as it is one of the most widely known and utilized forms of interactive social change theatre.
Objective of the workshop
In this 2 hour introductory workshop, participants will learn the basics of Playback Theatre with introduction to some key aspects of Playback Theatre: deep listening, story sharing, and the embodiment of feelings to honor experiences that are shared. Playback Theatre can be applied for many purposes including as a way of healing and creating a dialogue with communities and as social & humanitarian workers.
This experiential workshop is open to all. No theatre experience is required. Each participant will have a chance to try the roles of being an actor, audience and may be a teller. We will tell and enact stories together, in the spirit of fun and fellowship.
